CLC to be a Blessing to Fiji

CLC began its presence in Fiji on August 1st 2004 by taking over the existing Fiji Christian bookshop in Suva and is now trading as Christian BookWorld.

After many years of consultation between mission organisations and churches in Fiji, CLC and the existing missionary organisation, (responsible for the bookshop) believed the time was right for the changing of the baton. The Orama Christian fellowship birthed the vision to have a Christian bookshop in Suva as early as 1976 along with a mobile book van. Des & Avis Read were sent out from N.Z. to begin a book shop along with a teaching & healing ministry. David & Judith Scott visited Fiji working with the shop on and off for several years then moved to live in Suva 1991 - 1995 . The ministry then expanded to the heart of Lautoka and then to Labasa in August 1993. At the time of the changeover the work consists of only the bookshop in Suva.

CLC brings with it the resources of a missionary organisation already working in nearly 60 countries around the world and its vision is to establish several bookshops in Fiji on both the main islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

With such a great movement of God happening in Fiji, it is sad to see a great lack of Christian Literature available at a price that people can afford.

In the book “Operation World”, Patrick Johnson mentioned that there was a real lack of Christian Literature available in languages for the Fijian Indians and the Fijians themselves.

This joint venture with CLC NZ will have several steps as follows:

  1. Opening of shop August 1st 2004,
  2. Refitting of the bookshop before September 30th
  3. A second bookshop at Pacific Harbour before October 30th,
  4. And a bookshop on the island Vanua Levu before December 31th.

Next year, will see the introduction of the second part of the vision to see second hand Bibles, reference books and Christian literature. CLC New Zealand has now initiated a BookAid project (similar to Pacific Book Link in Australia) to get books in to the Pacific.

CLC Australia is hoping that this deadline will be maintained so that much needed literature will be available. How is this possible? First of all it is possible because all work is subsidised by the Christian BookWorld shops in Queensland. All profits are reinvested in Christian Literature missionary work either in Australia, in the Pacific area and around the world. Every time someone buys a book, Bible or any product, they are actually involving themselves in world missions.

The staff of the mission also make this possible due to the basic living allowance they are paid. They all see themselves as part of a mission in the CBD making literature available where they are, like spiritual lighthouses!

You can be part of this project either through prayer, donating Christian literature or financial donations (see response page and e-mail your details).
